Sterling Backcheck and The Canadian Camping Association have a long-standing partnership to support the safe operation of camps across Canada.
Sterling Backcheck, Canada’s largest background check company, provides the infrastructure for camps to order, store and manage Criminal Record Checks for volunteers, members and employees. Checks can be ordered online and completed within 24 hours (next business day).
This service is beneficial for candidates, camps and our associations. It provides:
- An extremely discounted rate - Under $23 per candidate compared to the $30-$75 rate most police stations charge
- An easy-to-use online service that saves camps and candidates time
- For each record check performed, a rebate of $2 is given to the Canadian Camping Association. In turn, the CCA returns $1 to member Provincial Camping Associations for every check submitted from the province

Frequently there are concerns expressed by Camp Directors and senior staff regarding criminal record checks for individuals under 18 years of age. This paper, authored by the federal Department of Justice and taken from their website may assist in raising awareness as to when criminal record checks can be requested, by whom, and what information will be released – Youth Criminal Justice Act PDF.
Individuals under the age of 18 can be asked to obtain a criminal record check. Sterling Backcheck can facilitate the process for you.
Note: Please note that at this time, unless candidates are in Halifax, NS, Vulnerable Sector Screenings are not able to be issued by 3rd party organizations like Sterling Backcheck. If that is a requirement by your organization, candidates must perform this at their local police station or via a police services’ online tool, if available.
