Canadian Camping Association National Leadership Forum November 2015

Delegates to the National Leadership Forum gathered in Bromont, QC in November 2015

In November 16, 2015, twenty six leaders in Canadian Camping including CCA Board Members, Provincial Representatives and Committee Chairs, Executive Directors and Provincial Presidents gathered at Chateau Bromont, Quebec. John Jorgenson, President of the International Camping Fellowship, opened with an inspiring message which concluded: If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.  Quebec presented three new programs, which we hope to share soon with the rest of the country:

  • Shape Up, a program designed to help summer camps incorporate healthy habits.
  • Sentinel, a computerized platform to assess a camp’s financial health
  • A complete tool kit for the integration of special needs campers.

Delegates to the National Leadership Forum gathered in Bromont, QC in November 2015

Le 16 novembre 2015, vingt-six dirigeants de camps du Canada, y compris des membres du conseil d’administration de l’ACC, des représentants et présidents de comités provinciaux, des directeurs généraux et des présidents d’associations provinciales, se sont réunis au Château Bromont, au Québec.   John Jorgenson, président de l’International Camping Fellowship (ICF), a ouvert la rencontre par un message inspirant qu’il a conclu comme suit : Si vous voulez aller vite, partez seul. Si vous voulez aller loin, partez ensemble. Le Québec a présenté trois nouveaux programmes que nous espérons partager bientôt avec le reste du pays.

  • Tremplin Santé, un programme conçu pour encourager l’adoption de saines habitudes de vie dans les camps d’été;
  • Sentinelle, une plateforme informatique qui aide les camps à évaluer leur situation financière;
  • la trousse Vers une intégration réussie, destinée à soutenir l’intégration d’enfants ayant des besoins particuliers au camp.

About Catherine Ross

Catherine's lifelong love of camping began in 1953 when she accompanied her mother, the new camp cook, to Camp Tanamakoon in Algonquin Park. She remained at Tan until 1978 as a camper and in several staff roles. After five years as a teacher, in 1979, Catherine and her husband George purchased Camp Mi-A-Kon-Da for girls in Parry Sound, Ontario which they owned for 20 years. Catherine has served on the Board of the Ontario Camps Association, and is Past President of the Society of Camp Directors. She is served as Communications Officer on the Board of the CCA, as is a recipient of the CCA's Ron Johnstone Lifetime Achievement Award. She is past editor of Camps Canada, published by the CCA, and the OCAsional News, the newsletter of the OCA. She is the author of four publications. Her articles on camping have appeared in numerous magazines.
